I heard you smiled today
And I found myself lost in a memory
Of the future and the way
That all our cards were gonna play out.
Your ace up your sleeve was nothing
Nothing but a little game to you.
I'm not sure I care
Though I'm still fine to stand and stare
At everything as it all goes by:
At the catch in your voice
And the way we shake hands
As we pass in the street,
Just like two strangers who know
Everything about each other.
I can walk away slowly
Because I don't wanna run.
Holding my head above the waves
In this draught upon the shore.
Somehow I don't really care,
Not anymore.
Just because it's you.
And you, for some reason,
You smile.

the first line really caught my attention, hearing you smile..thats deep.
the last line has a touch of irony, i like it alot.
great poem
i said i heard you smiled to someone and laughed about it... it kinda acts in two ways. i heard, you smiled today (as in someone told me that you smile) and i heard you smiled today (as in using different senses in place of those normally used)
glad you liked it! xx

An essay is an attempt to explain something that could have been said in two sentences:
thats funny, the replacing of the senses, it adds a nice touch to it,
the you got me thinking, i may use that phrase at some point because i truly feel at times you can "hear" someone smile
